Nelson had no previous experience of welding and he laughs when he shares his journey. “Before this, welding was just a name. I had no idea what it really meant. Now I know all the machinery from laser to welding, Axl to robots. I didn’t think being a welder would be my career but I was unemployed since 2015
and Afrit helped me.”
Like many of the workers at Afrit, Nelson is the breadwinner in his family. “I’m supporting my parents and my family is so proud of me. This job has helped me so much. Working
here gives you skills and experience so one day you can employ other people,” he says.
Nelson now has ambitions for his future.“I’d like to improve my skills and help Afrit with technical skills. I want to make a trade design, such as making unique drills. I can see what they need".
